How do I assess whether CHP and the T100 is right for my specific application ?

We require data on your hourly power and heat consumption throughout the year, together with the prices you pay for electricity and gas, to allow us to assess the economic viability of the unit for your application.

Where can the T100 microturbine be sited ?

The unit is much quieter than conventional reciprocating CHP sets and hence can be sited in many locations other than plant rooms. There must be access, either through the roof or adjacent walls, to the atmosphere, for the unit air intake and exhaust.

How much space do you need for the T100 ?

The unit itself is 2920mm long, 870mm wide & 1900mm high. Allowing space for the fuel compressor and door panels on the unit to open, a footprint of around 5500mm by 3200mm is usually required.

Can the unit be located outdoors or on a roof ?

A new generation of T100 is currently under development and will be available at the start of 2003 in fully weatherproof mode. The current T100’s require a low cost weatherproof enclosure. Due to the light weight of the unit (2000kg) they can often be situated on the roof.

I have problems with return water temperatures to the CHP unit being too high due to variability in heat demand. Will this cause the T100 to trip ?

Because microturbines do not use the water system for cooling of the generator, elevated return water temperatures do not affect the unit, unlike conventional reciprocating CHP sets which will trip under these circumstances.

What are the exhaust emissions from the T100 ?

Emissions from the T100 are less than 15 parts per million for both NOx & CO which are an order of magnitude lower than for a reciprocating CHP unit .

How much noise does the T100 make ?

The noise level from the microturbine is 70dbA at 1 metre.

Can the T100 be used to provide cooling as well as heating ?

The unit can be linked to an absorption chiller to provide cooling. NewEnCo have a relationship with one of the UK’s main absorption chiller suppliers, Climate Equipment, and would be pleased to provide a quotation on a package including an absorption chiller.

Which fuels can the T100 microturbine run on?

The unit is proven on Natural Gas and trials on sewage gas, landfill gas and mine gas are ongoing. It is also due to undergo further development in the near future to allow use of diesel and propane.gas.

Can the T100 CHP run at part-load and, if so, how will it affect electrical efficiency?

Yes, it can be modulated down to 50 % (52 kWe) of rated output and lose only a few percentage points of electrical efficiency.

Can the T100 be monitored and started / stopped remotely ?

The unit comes with a full telemetry package and can be monitored and controlled remotely from a P.C. or laptop.

What gas pressure does the T100 require ?

The unit requires gas at a pressure between 6 and 8.5 bar. A scroll fuel compressor is supplied with the T100 package which boosts mains gas pressure to this level.
